I'm thinking that I'd like to have all of the information on my own computer in case I decide to cancel Ancestry.

Actually what I did is I exported my Ancestry family tree to GEDCOM. Then I downloaded a demo copy of The Master Genealogist and imported the GEDCOM file into it.

I'm already pleased with it. It has a lot of reporting options and I pretty quickly created a family tree chart that I'm going to print myself.
