Thanks

To answer the '?'. I opened up a random person on FTM ..... in 1881 he was a scholar, in 1891 a hat brimmer, in 1901 a felt hat wirer and in 1911 a felt hat shaper.

Hence for each census there were 4 different address and 4 different occupations.

At the mo I have all this as residence facts, the full address in 'place' the job in description. Thats 4 lines in his facts. Nice n clean easy to view.

But obviously not desirable for a) the places map which seems to hate full addresses in the 'place' field and b) any tool that provides occupational summaries or draws upon residence description for narration.

Sorry to be a trouble. I think I just have higher expectations of FTM as a smart and user friendly database than it is currently. I'd get more from just designing my own spreadsheet.

Re: FTM 2009 - places - Complete Address

Jon,

I tried to find the details of where I addressed the complete address question. It a appears that the thread was deleted.

So, I'll try again.

1 - Enter Manchester, Lancashire, England in the Residence FACT Place name and resolve it on the map. Put the street address in the Description field

2 - Enter the complete address in a New Residence field by adding the street address before Manchester. Resolve this place by Ignoring the warning.

I looked at the map, and the Push Pin was NOT in the correct place, as I could see Wood End Lane and there is no feature to move that pin.

In looking at this a little closer, I see Woodend Lane and I see Wood End Lane in the Bing (MS Map).

Taking this problem one step further, I looked at Google World. It couldn't even find Woodend or Wood End Lane. I was able to zoom in on it.

The street view and Aerial Views were very similar.

I looked at one of my locations, in the US, and the push pin was also off. I am pretty sure that the push pin had been much closer to the exact address. But I think that MS Maps have changed.

I then went to Google Maps, and it wouldn't come close. It could not find Woodend Lane, only found Woodend Road.

Jon,

Please explain: "places map which seems to hate full addresses in the 'place' field"

As I have mentioned, you can Ignore the warning.

I find it very useful, as when I pull a Place Name Report, all individuals at this specific location, shows a list of individuals who were at that location.

Please take a look at this Blog entry.
