I know we've crossed paths the past few days on FTMM. (BTW, I posted a solution for your place name problem with FTMM.) I think your "continental drift" is coming from folks who use FTM, don't pay attention to the name that pops up, hit return, and then they sync to public trees. If you check, I'll bet most errors have a common word, e.g., Montacute,Somerset, England and Somerset, Maine. I noticed the same thing when I started trying out FTMM. ;-}
