I couldn't agree with you more! The old family tree maker was easy and clear. I bought all the discs as they came out and searching was addicting because I was actually finding info. Now I bought Family tree maker 2010 thinking I would have the same format with updated access to updated info , but that's not the way it is. In fact every time I try to find something all I get is adds to try a 14 day free trial of ancestry.com for info to be shown to me. I even have info from a family member on a disc and I bought FTM 2010 so I could view it and it tells me that the info I am trying to view is on a more recent version and I need to call a 800 number which I did and was told by a recording to e-mail which I did 2 days prior & still no response. Is it possible there is a newer version then 2010? I'm so frustrated that I want to quit...and ancestry.com has gained a monopoly on Genealogy research and cost like $300.00 plus a yr to gain access. Hello people everyone is out of work in this country!!
So now I guess my plan is to send for hard copy certificates and follow the chain of info that way. The heck with all this confusion and solicitation for more and more money before any info is given.
