“Are we talking about best practices for doing genealogy generally or are we talking about best practices for entering data into FTM? They are not, in all cases, one and the same.”

I am talking both, except I don’t just limit it to entering data into FTM 2012. I am talking about the design, the data base, the input, the analysis capability, the reports, the charts, the books, the human factors aspects, etc, etc

I think the practices/standards for doing genealogy override/take precedent over any particular system a person is using. And in few cases in FTM 2012 that is not the case ----one SMALL example. The software used to generate the Ahentafel(?sp) report is incorrect/wrong and does not agree with long established standards for handling a case where a female has a child out of wedlock and then subsequently gets married to a person[who is not the father of the child born out of wedlock] and then has a child . The output in this case is wrong and should not be used
