Right, sorry for not having been clearer. I know how to restore a tree. I was just following this conversation about restoring a LINKED tree. I have just set up a backup routine to cover my .ftm files and FTM's folder in AppData. I'm just going to use .ftm+AppData instead of creating .ftmb files from FTM. There is no point in those because they break the sync. If I'd done this yesterday before my sync broke, I wouldn't have to download my damned tree again and copy over all of my fact notes, source notes, research notes, tasks, etc.

I'm glad that you sent this into support. I hope they start recommending that everyone with linked trees do this.
