The file extensions ".FTM" and ".FTMDB" [CORRECTION: ".FTMB"] do not show. (I use Windows 7 but am still puzzled by many of its features having started out with DOS many years ago. I drive a car too, but do not know how to dismantle the engine. They are both just tools operated at a comfort level :-) The file "Type" that appears when I do an "*.ftm" search indicates that the file that is twice as large is an "FTM Backup File 2012" and the one half the size is an "FTM Family File 2012"
>>>>>>>>>>>> NEW QUESTION - Should I simply ignore the Backup (double sized) file and use the Family file (half the size of the back-up)? I don't want to waste effort editing the wrong version.
I am curious though why a file that is a back-up would be twice the size of the file that it is backing up. I would expect it to be the same size or just slightly larger.
EARLIER QUESTION: A major puzzle I am presently trying to sort out is why one back-up version of the main tree dated dated 2012-08-23 is 32,500 KB and the newer version (by two weeks) dated 2012-09-04 is 15,214 KB is just under HALF the size! ????????? !!!!!!!!!!!!! What is FTM up to here I wonder? Any ideas? I did NOT delete anything from the file. Both files have 4,385 people.

Are you sure that with your two files, one is a .FTM and the other .FTMB?
