Oh dear, I haven't even tried generating trees. I'm just so frustrated w/the whole process.

The main functionality problem is that a majority of the options on the toolbar on the top are not highlighted/don't work. V. frustrating. I hate all of this and the time I've wasted.

Frankly, I do "trees" last in my research, unlike most people. I do research in Word and footnote EVERYTHING, so that I have a working story, generation by generation that is readable (and interesting, frankly). I can "see" the family better this way, rather than any "tree" program which to me is flat and isolates data. It's just me (that part).

I'm strongly considering a new program as I'm duplicating everything now, which is time consuming and redundant and unnecessary, but I'm just not getting what I need -- a GOOD program that allows me to properly source my data. FTM 2011 is impossible. I use the Ancestry trees for research but enter data into FTM 2006, as I can better control what goes in and don't have all these duplicate entries and all these "automatic" sourcing of information that is ridiculous to me. (Since I started doing research well before Ancestry existed, rather back in the days when I stuck my head into a MF reader at the National Archives (yes in DC) several times a week going first to the Soundex and then to the Census. The original records are the SOURCE, not Ancestry. grrrr.

Was not happy to hear that you have problems in uploading gedcoms to Ancestry. Great ... something else to look forward to.

I run my computer in an XP mode BTW. Paid for the upgrade to Windows Professional in order to do so since I also dislike Office 2010 which is also not an improvement.

Thanks for the post.
