Living Individual

I recently uploaded my FTM 2012 file to Ancestry, without doing much homework on the results. I saved a backup file before doing so. I had a large number of current generations in the tree. I knew Ancestry would show them as living, but did not realize that when I synced the trees, my FTM file would rename the files Living and remove any information on the individual.

In previous versions of FTM I was able to copy and paste an individual (and ancestors or descendants) from one file (FTM or Gedcom) to another. If that is still an option, I can't seem to find how to do it. My intent was to copy the individual from the backup tree and paste the individual into the tree I have synced with Ancestry. Is that option still available?

I pulled up the Merge Wizard to Merge the 2 and found out that was not a good thing to do! I undid the Merge and am back at square one.

If I decide to continue with the tree on Ancestry, how can I sync the two files so that I do not lose my Living individual's information?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Deb
