It would help if Ancestry published the file format. Then it would be possible to write a basic validation tool, as well as writing your own reports more easily. Exporting to GEDCOM only goes so far - the GEDCOM file doesn't export everything (for example media items attached to sources) so you can't export it, fix it, then re-import it as you will have lost some things. I know Ancestry want to protect their IP, but presumably they could patent anything that is particular to them, and by opening up the format they would get the advantage of lots of extra tools that they don't have to write or support.
