Problems importing from Legacy

I used FTM for many years before I became unhappy with new versions and switched to Legacy several years ago. Now with FTM's ability to sync with ancestry.com, I wished to switch back. I purchased the software yesterday and imported a native Legacy file of ~33,000 people yesterday.

A cursory look at the tree (first family I looked at) showed the data is completely jumbled. The individual was broken from her true parents and a completely random person attached, missing children, 2 generations farther down the line was broken with children disconnected from their parents.

I cannot possibly go through all 33,000 people and attempt to find and correct errors making FTM useless to me.

Anyone know why this happened?

Is there a way to correct it?

Would importing from a gedcom instead of the Legacy file make a difference?

If you import from a gedcom does it also import pictures and attachments?
