Importing a tree on a CD problem

I received a family tree from a cousin in Family Tree Maker. I am currently using FTM 2011.

I scanned it and pasted it onto my laptop. I opened FTM 2011 and then went to "file" and "open." I asked it to open as a new tree. It said that it was unable to import it as such.

I closed FTM 2011 and clicked on the file itself to try to get it to open. It asked me if I wanted to make changes to FTM.exe on my computer. I said "no" and so it doesn't open.

I then right clicked on "Properties" on the file and it said that it opened with Family Tree Maker Executable (FTM.exe) or with Family Tree Maker 2011.

Since it didn't open with Family Tree Maker 2011, I tried the executable open and it said it needed to make changes on my computer.

My question is: Should I say "yes" to those file changes in regards to this file? And if those changes are made, will they affect my FTM2011? I don't want to screw up what I have in favor of this older version disk.

Thanks for any help.
