First, please remember that I am a DataBase, application and system designer as well as a active genealogist.

What amazes me is that so many times the first answer to many issues with FTM is to "compact the database". Don't get me wrong, I fully endorce the action that sounds like a clean up of the garbage that has collected in the database, many high powered databases and application systems have a process called "automatic garbage collection" that cleans up memory and storage without having to do it yourself.

One of my wishes has been a "collector" the does the work of "compact" without the user having to remember.
