Are you perhaps attempting to report my request with a subject of "Person Lists"? If so, might I request that you report the actual request, not the claim that "AKA to be expanded to include a surname file" which is not even remotely accurate?
First, AKA already includes surname. Second, both Name and AKA only inlcude one name each, designated as Primary, in the name lists. And third, the name lists do not currently indicate which entries are Name and which are AKA.
At least using AKA allows for a second entry in a name list. Adding another Name entry does not include that second Name in any name list.
As many people have already written, they use AKA to record differences in spelling of surname from source to source. The last genealogy software I used (now discontinued) associated the spelling of names with the source in which that name spelling was used. I've used genealogy software since the early 1980s (beginning with a CPM+ software), with that discontinued software one of the best I had seen through the decades.
