I agree that Name fact should have an "index" flag for any name facts that you want indexed. This way multiple name facts can be indexed, with one and only one name being the "preferred" name, the preferred name gets used in charts or reports that have place for only one name, while the indexed names get displayed in the name list that the user can filter by different attributes.

Having an indexed flag and a type indicator on all names would allow FTM to removed the separate field called AKA and substitute it with an additional name entry with a type of "aka".
