FTM says "no common relative" but shows one

Surnames: Pitt Hillhouse Williams Fullerton Mann
When I use FTM's relationship calculator between William Bradley Pitt and myself is says "no common ancestor" but on the ancestor list is clearly shows the connection (the closest common ancestor is John McCune Fullerton). There are three descriptions in the drop downs list (one is below)

2nd cousin 2x removed of husband of husband of 2nd great grandmother

Ive posted these about these crazy relationship descriptions below but on ancestry.com. For instance, instead of describing someone as maternal grandmother it will describe them as father of mother's brother or something like that.

Can anyone tell me why FTM fails to note the common ancestor when there obviously is one?
