I agree that the family view on Ancestry.com is handy, but I don't miss it in FTM. The biggest advantage of FTM vs. the competition is the "TreeSync" feature that allows you to work online for research. I spend 90% of my time on the online tree - that's where I do all my searches, merges, adding photos, etc. Then I sync the changes into FTM - clean up place names - ans sync again to send the corrected places out to Ancestry.
I also use FTM for all my reports & charts to share with family.
Leveraging the sync lets me get the best of both worlds, and it's worked out very smoothly for me.
