I'm trying to get started on putting together a family website. With genealogy information, and which will allow the family to help contribute to the online family tree information, such as locations, stories, pictures, medical information, etc. The idea I have is that pictures and names would be linked together and could display together on a chart, with the links leading to a page for that specific person. I want the site to have a search function which would allow sorting people in different ways, or to just do keyword searches. Ideally, I'd also download this new information back down to my machine/software for backup purposes.

I'm trying to decide which software to use to make this happen. I'm not much with HTML but I can build basic webpages. Any suggestions how to go about doing this, and which software would be easiest to use?
