I just downloaded the newer version. It gives you 30 days free before you have to pay for the software so be sure to save the files into some other format. Unless you have a new up to date software program, I suggest you start a tree for free on an on-line source - Ancestry.com is one possibility. You can also save your file into a GEDCOM that most programs will read. A GEDCOM does not seem to import media however. Once Master Gene is loaded, import your file using the drop down menu and use .uds. Then search to find your file. I'll ck back to this site after dinner to see if you are having problems. BE SURE YOUR security software is up to date. Mine said that a virus was blocked when the program loaded.
