I think most people used AID to download media such as photos and stories rather than images of census records etc.
I imagine copyright control of user loaded images is very complex. Ancestry can not "own" them. Does the person who uploaded a photo have an expectation of keeping control of the photo even though they have "published" it on Ancestry and allowed the image to be attached to other trees?
I imagine that litigation would be required to get answers to those questions, let's hope it never comes to that!
Many people want the images to create their own family website. It would seems a great shame not to be able to use those images. But once again, who has control of the use of those images?
