GEDCOM download changes wives last names from maiden to married name

I have been trying to download my GEDCOM file repeatedly, so I can upload it to another genealogy site. After downloading the file and uploading to the other site, when I view the tree, a lot of the wives' names have changed from their maiden name as I had in my Ancestry.com tree, to their married last name. For some reason, the GEDCOM file seems to be looking at "alternate" names taken from attached census and residence records, and then using that name when it displays the pedigree chart. I recognized an unusual spelling of a few names as being from census records. The only fix I've found is to delete the census record, which I would rather not have to do since it establishes when people lived in various places. Why does the GEDCOM download change the names like this? Why can't it just use the main name that I've entered in the name fields?
