Reunion Software for MACs

Hello,
I recently bought a MAC and the only software that I cannot port directly over is FTM. I was wondering if any one has had experience with importing from FTM (GEDCOM format) to Reunion? I do not have any pictures or videos in my family tree file so the is not an issue. I just don't want to lose any infromation. So far I have tried the demo and it looks good (just cannot import with demo).

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

Reunion Register Reports

I use the notes section of reunion 8 to keep information such as an obit that I use in Register Reports. But I would like to format the obit in the report such as centering the date and news paper and underlining making bold and centering the title of the obit. Reunion does not do that and even if I do it in appleworks and cut and paste it back into the notes reunion does not remember the formating. This means that every time I create a new report I have to do a lot of formating. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thoughts about iFamily?

There is no iFamily message board, and I think Reunion is the only program written for the Mac, so I'm posting this here.

Has anyone spent much time using iFamily?

I've downloaded a demo and have just started reviewing it. Curious to know what others think.

Thanks.

-- Jillaine
Reunion 9, MacFamily Tree or Heredis?

I've been a Reunion user for many years and enjoy using it. However, as a Mac user I've come to expect a more polished user interface and reporting capabilities. I really like the 3-dimensional charts that Heredis can create and yesterday was very excited with MacFamily Tree v5.0.7 Hyperlinks. and graphics.

I know that Reunion 9 is very powerful, I just wish it wasn't so "gorpy" looking.
What are your thoughts?

Temporary Mac replacement for PC

My Windows laptop is dying a slow death (the screen hinge is breaking) and I have a trip coming up. As the laptop isn't going to be replaced in time, I'm looking at borrowing a Mac (running 10.4.10) for the trip.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what software I might use to access my genealogy database on the Mac? I'm not too keen on purchasing something that I may not use again, though if it is cheap I don't suppose that's such a problem.

On the PC I'm using Legacy.

Looking forward to your replies. :-)

Kind Regards,
Wendy Howard

Mac software access to online records?

I'm looking for a Mac s/w solution for my "mother in law" to begin putting her research into a program. I know that Reunion's the main program for the Mac, but it doesn't seem to offer any integration to Ancestry.com -- or any -- online records. Anybody have another solution? She has a pretty current Mac, so I'm even thinking of using FTM on the Windows side of her Mac, because access to online data would really kickstart her research.

Thanks.

Hi All

I have spent one too many evenings trying to debug my PC and want to convert to Mac.

I have used TMG - The Master Genealogist - and its companion Second Site and I like both. Unfortunately they do not run on Mac. I am considering converting a very large TMG database to Reunion.

I would enjoy conversing with those who may have done this in the past.

Thanks in advance

Jon

I have an old backup copy from my Reunion software on the Mac. I made the backup in 1999, if that helps. I now only use the PC, and I understand that this software isn't sold for the PC. I need help from some kind soul out there who can export these 2 files into gedcoms so I can import them into other software. I may use Family Tree Maker unless I hear otherwise.

I've been out of this for a while, but have a good database. Been working on it since 1983.

Reunion GEDCOM Performance

I am considering purchasing Reunion but have a question before I do.

I have downloaded the demo version and am very pleased with what I see. However the demo version does not support GEDCOM import. This generates a question for me.

I downloaded another demo program to try out that allowed GEDCOM import. I experienced no performance issues with the demo version until I imported my existing database of about 5000 individuals. Then the performance of the tool went to pot.

QUESTION: Does import of GEDCOM files have a negative effect on Reunion performance? Does database size have a noticeable impact on Reunion performance?

"Harry," a person in my file, was raised by his legal parents, but after their death he learned that his actual father was a long-time friend of the family (also deceased) who had been known to him as "Uncle Bob" (not his real name). Uncle Bob had never publicly acknowledged the relationship during his life, although it was known to close family members.

I am at a loss how to treat this situation in my family file. Harry (now deceased also) was raised by his legal parents, but has a blood relation only to his mother. His legal status is in conflict with his genealogical status.

Should I enter a duplicate card for both sets of parents, and show him as an adopted son of his legal father? There are many descendants, and some of them have mixed feelings about making the situation public, so I intend to remove Harry's personal information from the file that is uploaded to the internet, but I don't wish to falsify the paternity.
reading a file with extension .FTW (Family Tree Maker?)

I own a Mac using OSX and I have a copy of Reunion 8. A distant relative just emailed me a "Family Tree Maker" file with information about our family. Is there any way I can view this information? I am unable to open it or import it from within Reunion. Is there any free converter that I can download? Converting to Reunion would be ideal but converting to anything readable would be sufficient.

Thanks,

Bob Murphy

Same-sex unions

In the General forum, this topic came up so I asked Leister Pro about it. Here's their reply: "Yes, Reunion supports this. Simply start out as you would to add any spouse, but when you get to the Name tab of the Edit Person window to enter the person's name, you should see a Sex pop-up menu to the right. Simply adjust that to Female or Male as necessary and enter everything else normally."

Hope that helps anyone who needs to use this. :-)

Reunion> Generations>????

I started using Reunion in 1993 and loved it! Great charts and reports! Was sorry to see it sold to Generations but was told they would update Reunion so waited and got Gererations (did not like it as well) and it's updates--now they have sold out. Don't like FTM format nearly as well but need to update to something that hopefully will be around for a while. Is there anything out there that runs simular to the old Reunion???
