Carriage Return in BMDB Sequence

This is a request for a modification in Second Site for the use of [CR] in BMDB events. At this time, the [CR] as used in TMG is honored by SS for all events. However, if the "BMDB First" box on Pages - Format is checked, this results in awkward paragraphing within this first paragraph under a person's name. Can [CR] be ignored if this box is checked for all BMDB events (and these events only)? That would make for a much improved flow of text.

If I have this wrong and am missing something, someone please let me know. Thanks for listening.

First of all: Second Site is excellent, excellent excellent!
============================================================
When I click the compiler to send an e-mail, I get this message from Outlook,"The command line argument is not valid.
Preferred census entry for Second site?

I am a new user of SS.
My census entries in TMG to date have been inconsistent.
Originally due to limitations of my genealogy software I treated a census as a source, with the transcribed text of the census as a memo.
Upton changing to generations O switched and used census as an event in its own right, using Caroline's separate UK census tabs for UK census. I began to put the details in the Memo field of the tag. I copied the tag to each perspon present, regardless of their status in the household.

Recently I began to use the Witness and role facility and to enter children and other relatives present using the Witness/role facility.

Second site seems to show some "role" census appearances, sometimes without the place details.

How does SS handle roles such as son?
Are roles included in Witness events?
Are places included in witness events?

How do experienced users suggest that one enters censuses to get a clear report?
I'd be grateful for guidance.
web host advice please

I am trying to create a personal genealogy site using second site software in hopes of contacting distant relatives who may have old photos, documents etc. I am now looking for a website host. I have tried my ISP "Charter.net" but I am not satisfied with their web host service - too slow, limited size etc. I am willing to pay a web host. IX web hosting in Hopkinsville, KY looks interesting though they are not genealogy oriented. Advice on web host appreciated.

Thanks

Jon

I have several source pages on my web site. The sources seem to be in no particular order in these pages, neither numerical nor alphabetical. I would like an option to display the sources in some kind of order, preferrable alphabetical so that similar sources are listed together. Would it be possible to include this feature in a future software issue. I have no knowledge of HTML programming nor do I wish to learn. My interest is in genealogy so please do not suggest I alter the program myself.

After I create my SS page, I upload the whole NAME-p folder to my website. I can therfore retain my other links to SS. I exclude living people and also people who do not want their family to be shown. Some of these living people have exhibits attached to them. Even though they are not shown on SS, the exhibits are contained within the NAME-p folder. Therfore the photo's (in my case birth certificates) are readable for hackers or someone delving into the folders. Is this correct, or should I do something other than deleting manually?
Thanks

My biggest example is using ancestry.com as a source and I put the detail of the source such as what census year, etc...in TMG in the Citation Detail box and second site only will list the source as ancestry.com and no detail. Help! what am I doing wrong. I have tried all the options in the sources data section in second site.

website is: www.edwards1.com/rose/genealogy/secondsite/rose-p/index.htm

I have drawn my charts which comprise more than 25 generations (as it goes back to 1030). I notice I can only show 25 generations. Is there any way to show more generations, or a way around it? As currently it just stops when reaching the 25th person

Rightly or wrongly - probably wrongly - my TMG database includes both my maternal and paternal ancestry trees as well as those of my wife's. I want to present only those ancestors in my maternal tree on my web page.

I have no problems controlling this with the descendant and pedigree charts, but am disconcerted that the Surname and Index lists contain ALL names in my database - maternal and paternal trees of both my and my wife's lines.

Is there a way to filter the input to the Surname and Index lists without having to apply a physical sort tag to each name?

Thanks,

Wes

Where to find info on Second Site

"Second Site" is a web site generator that works as an "add-on" to "The Master Genealogist" published by Wholly Genes. It is an extremely flexible and powerful tool, with features that go far beyond any similar program's.

Here is the link to the site maintained by the developer of Second Site, John Cardinal, that describes the software.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~johncardinal/tmgsit...

There is a mailing list, SECONDSITE-L@rootsweb.com, that is devoted to the program. The developer and beta testers participate on this list, but it is open to the public. Messages posted to this message board also appear on SECONDSITE-L.

Darrell, board and list admin, SECONDSITE

As a newbee, I seem to be having a problem when I go to preview a web page created. I get the exhibits, name of person but no narrative (showing the events, etc.) If I play around, eventually I get it showing, but I don't know how, and I keep changing options? Is their a bug or me? I am selecting Narrative style with Carla's Background.

Please - any help would be helpful before I pull my remaining hair out.

Thanks in Advance!
