According to Andersonville records George Carter Worley was released alive (thanks Kevin). He never made it home though and no one in the family ever heard from him again and assumed he died at Andersonville.
He was born and lived in Kentucky up until he joined the war, one of his brothers (Leander) moved and lived in Poplar Bluff Missouri with his family about the same time.
Our line of thought is George possibly could have been on Sultana once he was released and headed to the stop at New Madrid (about 50 miles from Poplar Bluff)...
Any help or clues would be greatly appreciated.
