The point that Kathie was making is that if the person was sentenced to imprisonment or a fine, and they decided to pay the fine, or couldn't pay it and was sent to prison, the actual sentence column doesn't show which happened, this is in another column. And the instructions don't say to look at other columns for this information when determining sentence type.
Imagine two people, both sentenced to 2 months HL or pay 30 shillings. One pays the fine and the other doesn't and is sent to prison. They still received the same sentence in both cases, and so Kathie was questioning whether we should really be keying in a different sentence type for those two cases when the actual sentence passed was exactly the same?
The reply on the other thread saying that we should look to see whether a fine was paid or the person was discharged from prison, was posted by another WAP volunteer, not by Anna or other WAP staff member, and was not quoting an email received from WAP as far as I know, so we are still not sure what the official line is on this.
